The New York annual Mat Gala bought us PunK Rock theme this year. Some took the theme a little over the top while others dawned beautiful gowns and still hinted at and embodied the image with touches of punk like accessories including studs, cuffs, and dipped hair ends. While the theme was bold and fun some stars did not get the memo and arrived to the gala in typical Hollywood red carpet attire. Many of the actresses and singers arrived along side there designers instantly telling viewers who they were wearing with out being asked. Katy Perry arrived in a metallic dress on the arms of the Italian duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The california girl also wore a princess grown and the punk chic style was evident.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual costume Institute Gala in New York was put together by the one and only editor and chief of Vogue Anna Wintour. The big event was jam packed with A listers and inside was rumored to be decorated all punk rock fitting for the theme. Anna Wintour let Kim Kardashian onto her red carpet this year but unfortunately the reality TV star came under tough scrutiny for her Ricardo Tisci dress which was compared to curtains several times for its traditional looking print. Kim wore gloves and matching shoes which consequently led to a floral pattern overload. Kanye preformed after dinner and shouted out to his baby mama she was beautiful. The crowd then applauded and screamed for the pregnant and usually stylish star.
Beyonce swanned up the red carpet in a Kenzo Dress worn with potentially questionable matching sky high boots that only she could pull off. Some how the entire ensemble gloves included looked fabulous teamed with her golden locks and train she was the star of the night as always. The jet setting star who is in the middle of touring took a night off for the much anticipated event.
Miley Cyrus was also widely criticized for her choice. The 20 year old singer wore a Marc Jacobs creation rumored to have been worn by Kate Moss years ago. The singer opted for spiking her short peroxide hair a look evidently that didn’t sit well. I think that if Miley had worn the same dress with her prior brown tresses she would not have been under scrutiny for her choice at all but most people had a serious issue with her dramatically different hair. She was not the only star to dawn a peroxide do as Anne Hathaway arrived with a new peroxide pixie look also that she wore quite well in Valentino .
Rooney Mara was my personal favorite of the night in Givenchy also accompanied by the creative director Riccardo Tisci. The white romantic lace gown with a plunge neck was undoubtedly for me the winner of the night. She wore a very dark lip with her black hair that made the white illuminate as well as her. Nicole Richie did cream TopShop and a dark lip with white grey hair which also had a gothic theme to it.
Anna Wintour did not abide by the dress code and arrived in floor length Channel because she can and ho would question that. Sarah Jessica Parker wore a eccentric Philp Tracey creation resembling a mohican. The Sex and the City super star wore a Giles Deacon gown and LV boots but had a minor flash scenario.
All the Super Models represented with Miranda Kerr in revealing cut out a Micheal Kors creation finished with a spiked gold Louboutin clutch. Rosie Huntington Whitley was enchanting in Gucci and Cara Delevigne in Burberry who posed with fellow Brit Sienna Miller also in Burberry. Both wore low V plunges with spikes finishing.
Tiger Woods bought his new girlfriend ski champion Lindsey Vonn to the event and Amber Heard and Johnny Depp are rumored to be an item. Blake Lively showed up in Gucci gown that was duck blue and bled into black sweeping the floor giving the impression of a feathered look the fashion icon did not arrive sadly with hubby Ryan Reynolds. Lastly Madonna made a serious statement the material girl barred all in chains a black wig and provocative baring tights. The material girl went above and beyond in a studied plaid Givenchy piece and not much else.
Chaos and fashion excelled as expected and most did not disappoint!
